In 2002 I also attended a totally online and totally fascinating international conference on Teaching Online in Higher Education. It was hosted on IPFW's servers. I learned to use IPFW's MOO (what a hoot!). I thought the personae and the MOO rooms were really cool, but what impressed me most was the split-window chatroom - where you could do a virtual 'realtime' PowerPoint Presentation. Half the screen was used for chat presentation and interaction with the presenters accompanied by PowerPoint slides on the other half of the screen! I was very glad I wasn't telecommuting from Europe or the Middle East - but mostly I was glad I didn't live Down Under. Those dedicated Australians had to be up at 3:00 in the morning to attend and to present! |
